The Boathouse by Joanne McCoy

This wall hanging was made for my city & guilds submission. It was based on photos of a scene from Loch Dunmore near Pitlochry. It was constructed in 2 sections the wood and the Loch using appliqué, then painted sections of lutrador were applied and burnt to produce the textured surface. The trees were constructed using silk rods they were blended in with stitch and use of the embellisher. Black wadding was used and fibres embellished from the back to maintain the muted colours

Roman Wall by Joanne McCoy

This was designed to form part of our group project walls. A visit last year to Pompeii and Herculaneum inspired the piece. Silk dupion was dyed red and place to form the coloured panel of the piece grey fabric was added were the wall had crumbled this was textured using acrylic paint. The gold frame and urn were painted onto the background. The stone arch was made with textured fibres then painted with grey acrylic paint and quilted to add additional texture.
Aspects of Love by Joanne McCoy

Aspects of Love ......... My inspiration for the quilt was taken from variety of sources; the works of Jane Austen, flowers/plants and their meanings, the positive and negative aspects of love. The basis for the design was around romance, love and words. I designed the quilt from the top left, the joy of love and romance leading down to the negative aspects around love, it is not always love. A variety of techniques were used including painted lutrador, bonded appliqué, machine embroidery, breakdown printing, foils and written word have been used to portray the message. I was asked to represent the region for the Quilter's Guild spotlight exhibition and it toured the U.K. in 2011-2012.

Reflections of Autumn by Joanne McCoy

This quilt was made for my city & guilds submission. The quilt was designed around a love of autumn, walking and representation of the family tree. The tree in the centre panel was appliquéd on, as were the leaves in the corners. The side panels were sewn onto stitch and tear, using freezer paper for the templates. These were quilting with a leaf design and then markal paint applied to enhance the quilting.

Silk Wrap by Joanne McCoy

This was the wearable submission for my city & guilds. The design was to add a wow factor to a little black dress. It was made with dupion silk and thin wadding. The leaf pattern was machine quilted on and the leaves were then painted using lumiere paints. The dragon flies were machine embroidered and then added to the wrap the quilting in this section was kept to a minimum and Swarovski crystals were added to give a hint of sparkle.
